OUR TOURS

Our tours are designed to promote awareness and appreciation for primate species while supporting conservation efforts. With a focus on education and sustainability, we aim to create unforgettable experiences that inspire a love for wildlife and nature conservation. Primate watching is a part of our NGO's activities (Pro-Muriqui Institute). We have been involved in both scientific and conservation projects for over 30 years. All revenue generated from primate watching is reverted to maintain our NGO activities.

WHO ARE THE MURIQUIS?

Southern muriquis are a critically endangered species according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN | Brachyteles arachnoides).

They are special creatures that help maintain the forests and have a distinct social life, sometimes being referred to as "the hippie monkeys" for their lower aggression and prosocial behaviors. They are also the largest bodied monkey in the Americas.

Our tourists recount the adventures with southern muriquis on this blog

Hendryk Gemeiner

"We had an extraordinary and truly unforgettable experience during our excursion with Prof. Mauricio and his team at Carlos Botelho State Park, where we were fortunate enough to observe the endangered Southern Muriqui (Brachyteles arachnoides) in the wild, the largest monkeys in the Americas. The expertise and dedication of Prof. Mauricio and his team ensured that we had fantastic sightings of these remarkable animals. Not only did we have a unique and unforgettable nature experience, but we also had the opportunity to learn extensively about the Southern Muriqui from Prof. Mauricio, who is the foremost researcher on this species. This excursion was not only sustainable and ethical, with a profound respect for the animals, but it also contributes directly to the conservation efforts for these magnificent creatures. For any nature or wildlife enthusiast, this excursion is an absolute must!" (On google reviews)

Larissa Lopes

"The muriquis gave me a lot of joy, friendships and good memories. The work of the Instituto Pró-Muriqui team is beautiful and inspiring. I am very grateful for everyone's dedication to conserving this primate, which is so important for the maintenance of our majestic Atlantic Forest." (Former volunteer | On google reviews)

Gabriela Carvalho Nascimento

"Observing these animals living freely in the middle of the forest was the most incredible experience I've had in my life. Contact with nature, the silence (and noise) of the forest, made me see how precious our planet is and that it must be protected. Long live the Muriquis!" (On google reviews)
